- Comments Off on Maximizing the Performance of Your Desktop Computer
Computer users are constantly looking for ways to maximize the performance of their desktop machines. We rely on these machines everyday for work and other related tasks. Not many people know that there is much that can be done with a desktop system to improve performance without having to replace parts.
Increase its Speed
One of the biggest problems that users encounter with computers is slow speeds. You can actually increase the speed of your computer easily. The first thing that you want to do is get rid of everything unnecessary that is on the hard drive. A lot of people tend to install applications that they don’t really use. It is also very easy to accumulate documents that are no longer needed. Remove these and it could help make your system run faster. If you do not want to delete them store it on a USB flash drive or external hard drive.
Clean Up
After deleting or transferring all the files and applications on your system it is a good idea to do a clean up. You can achieve this by defragmenting your desktop computer. This will help you put together all those little bits of free space that you have hanging around here and there. You may also want to run a registry scan to help you determine which items in the registry can be removed.
Tweak It
For those who seriously want added performance overclocking can be the best answer. With this you increase the computer’s speed and efficiency so it performs better. You can do this by adjusting the settings on your motherboard, your processor as well as your memory. However those who want to do this need to make sure that they do it correctly. Otherwise it could mess up the entire system! It is also a good idea to make sure that you have a good cooling system for your desktop computer that is because overclocking a system can result in overheating issues.

- Comments Off on 3 Reasons Why a Notebook is Better Than a Desktop Computer
A lot of us grew up when the only kind of computer on the market was the desktop. Laptops or notebooks were massive, bulky, and under-performing “toys” that hardly anyone ever used.
How things have changed! Today, notebooks are fast, powerful, and can match a desktop computer when it comes to performance.
If you are still undecided if you should buy a notebook or a desktop, these are three reasons why choosing the former over the latter makes sense:
1. Portability
This is one thing that a desktop simply cannot match a notebook in: portability! You can’t move a desktop around. Once set up, you have to use it in a fixed place. A notebook, on the other hand, can be taken anywhere. Like to work while sipping a coffee at Starbucks? No problem! Just pick up your laptop and head out! Maybe you want to show your friends this new video you downloaded recently, or maybe you have a presentation that you want to show your co-workers. In either case, the portability that a notebook offers is simply invaluable.
2. Display/Screen Quality
All laptops have an LCD screen, while with desktops, you have the option of choosing from a LCD or a bulky CRT monitor. The former, in case of desktops, can be quite expensive. Therefore, when it comes to screen quality, it is hard to match a notebook – LCD screens are simply many, many times better looking (not to mention, easier on your eyes) than the bulky CRT monitors you see on so many desktop computers.
3. Light Weight
I am tempted to club this under portability, but the sheer weight of a laptop deserves a separate point. Older laptops tended to be bulky and heavy, weighing as much as 5-8 Kgs. Newer laptops, on the other hand, are slim and weigh very little. This makes them so easy to carry around, even inside your house. Maybe you want to work while lying on the bed, or sitting in front of the TV. You can’t do it with a desktop, but the lower weight of the newer laptops makes them ideal for doing so.

- Comments Off on Tips on Buying Desktop Computer
Whether your old computer is shot or you have never bought a computer on your own before, you may be feeling a little bit nervous about the whole thing. Buying a computer represents putting down a fair chunk of your hard earned money, and you may be nervous about getting a computer that isn’t a great fit for your needs.
The truth is, getting a good desktop computer that suits you is easier than you think, and by simply keeping the following tips in mind, you’ll be able to find the perfect computer that will keep you happy for years to come.
1.Know what you want your computer for
Think about how you use your computer. Are you someone who only uses a computer for its word processing ability, or do you prefer to stay up to date on the latest games. Maybe you are someone whose entertainment is largely focused around your computer; all of your communication and your movies are kept on your computer. By keeping a clear idea of what you need your computer for, you will be able to get the right machine.
2.Know what RAM is
RAM stands for Random Access Memory, and you will find that what it does is affect the speed with which your computer “thinks,” that is, processes action. If you are only using your computer for things like surfing online or writing, you’ll find that a RAM of 512 MB is okay, though 1GB is ideal. You’ll find that this size will give you room to expand or grow if you want to later on, but that it’s not so big that you are wasting your money. If you are going to be gaming, or doing advanced computer programming with your unit,, you will of course want more.
3.Don’t worry so much about hard drive space
Your hard drive space generally refers to the amount of information that you can keep on your computer, ranging from written work to audio and visual media. You’ll find that if you download a lot of videos that this can be eaten up fast, but in desktops, you’ll find that it is very easy to add some more. Remember that while you do have a finite amount of space that it is all in how you use it.
4.Online or from the store?
You’ll find that ordering online is actually a lot cheaper, but keep in mind that you should have a clue about what you are looking it. If you choose to build a computer yourself, you’ll find that it is much easier to get the parts online. At a store, though, you will find that you can often take the time to look over the specs, speak with a sales representative and take a look around to see what else is available. It really depends on what you are comfortable with.
If you are looking to buy a desktop computer, remember that you really need to think about what you want it for. Once you have the function decided upon, it is very easy to figure out what machine will be perfect for you.

- Comments Off on Why Tablet Computers Can Spell Doom For Desktop Computers?
One thing can be said about Tablets: They came. They saw and they conquered. Yes, once there was the iPhone, the Blackberry and now it’s the Tablet PC (iPad, Amazon Kindle Fire, Galaxy Tab) that has taken the technology world by storm. Tablet PCs work as efficiently as desktops and they can accomplish much of the work that desktops do. In fact, experts have predicted that Tablet PCs will definitely overtake desktops and maybe laptops as well in the coming future. This is due to the fact that Tablets have many advantages over desktop computers and laptops.
Tablet PCs are very much mobile and you can carry them around wherever you want. They are also very light in weight and can be easily put into any small bag. On the other hand, desktops and laptops do not provide you with this option. Desktops can be used only at home/work place. However, laptops can be carried around too, but they aren’t as light weight as compared to tablets.
Experts have gone to the extent of predicting that there might come a time when kids might take tablets to school! In fact it is already happening in some places. We think, this might also come true considering the fact that school-going kids also own mobile phones now. If this happens, parents will also be able to track where their kids are with the advanced technology in communication. Of course, desktops and laptops aren’t capable of providing all these facilities, are they? In fact, tablet PCs are great for students because they will be useful in taking down notes in classes.
Not only to students, but Tablet PCs are a boon to businessmen too. They have all the applications that are required to conduct their business. Yet again, their mobility factor comes into play and businessmen can take these Tablets for meetings or seminars anywhere they want.
Many other professionals such as doctors, lawyers and professors too will find a Tablet very useful as it’s a great option for jotting down notes as and when they want whereas this option isn’t available with desktop computers.
Another factor that can spell doom for desktops is that Tablets are for those who need to work ‘on the go’, that is they also work while traveling. But desktops are for those who bring their work home.

- Comments Off on Advantages of Notebook Computers Over Desktop Computers
Computer usage has increased over the years. Now it has become a mandatory requirement in most professions. Students are also increasingly dependent on computers for their project and research work. The desktop computer is known for its all-rounded performance, higher configuration compatibility and relatively cheaper pricing. On the other hand notebook computers have an advantage for its compactness and mobility factors. Though both these forms of computers are known for their uniqueness and serve different audience but the notebook computers have the ability to eclipse over desktop computers.
Technological advancements are welcomed but they are respected when they can be mobilized. Desktop computers have been made smaller through laptops while retaining most traits. Any notebook computer can perform the tasks of a basic desktop computer and it can be enhanced as per the user wishes. Earlier it wasn’t possible to upgrade a laptop but now with increased innovations, a laptop’s RAM (Random Access Memory) can be enhanced up to 4 GB for enabling superior performance. Notebook computers are expensive as they integrate all the components of a desktop computer into one compact machine.
The storage capacity of the notebook computers was a big limitation but now even that has been considerably diminished through the usage of flash memory. This kind of memory takes up very less space and stores lots of information. Notebooks with 250 GB memory are now available in the market. Notebooks enable wireless internet access through Wi-Fi enabled hotspots and their portability adds to their major advantage. The battery backup of the notebook computer allows its usage even without dedicated power-supply. All notebooks use LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screens which are better and brighter in viewing. Notebooks have combined host of features like finger print reading for security issues, inbuilt camera for chats and taking photos, DVD combo drive for playing all types of file formats and much more.
There are different kinds of Laptop computers available to suit varied requirements. There are the basic desktop replacement notebooks which have a large screen display with loaded features. There are gaming notebooks which are configured for hi-end games. There are designing applications based notebooks, tablet notebooks for easier portability and the low budget student notebooks. Thus a user can have defined usage and then buy the required notebook from a trusted computer store. Many online stores also offer great deals on notebook computers and accessories.

- Comments Off on Basic Components of a Desktop Computer
A desktop computer is a machine which is meant to be used at a single location. All the basic parts of desktop computers are considered hardware. The monitor, computer case, keyboard, mouse and power cord are considered the basic parts of a computer. The computer case is the plastic or metal box that contains the main components of the computer.
It comes in different shapes and sizes. It houses the motherboard, central processing unit and the power supply. The monitor is located outside the computer case and it works with a video card to display the text and images on the screen.
The power cord is the link between the power outlet and the power supply unit in the computer casing. If the power cord is not plugged in then the computer will not get on.
The next basic part is the keyboard which is a piece of hardware that resembles to a typewriter keyboard. It is one of the primary ways to enter data into the computer system.
The mouse is a peripheral that is also known as pointing device and helps one to point objects on the screen, click on them and move on. There are two types of mouse one is optical and other one is mechanical. A mechanical mouse uses a rolling ball to detect movement and is more difficult to clean. But it is less expensive and most of the desktop computers come with a mechanical mouse only.
Beyond these parts are the hardware items which are located inside the computer case and peripherals. These are optional pieces of hardware that makes the computer system more useful and enable one to accomplish additional tasks.
Inside the desktop computer is a central processing unit, which is often called the brain of the computer. Its job is to carry out the commands. Whenever one presses a key, click a mouse or starts an application, one is sending instructions to the CPU. This processor determines how fast a computer can execute the instructions. The speed of processor is determined in megahertz or gigahertz. The higher the hertz will be, the faster the computer will work and send instructions.
The CPU is generally of a two inch ceramic square with a silicon chip located inside. This chip is usually about the size of a thumbnail. The other part is RAM which is system’s short term memory. The data is temporarily stored here until one saves his work to the hard disk.
The computer’s work takes place in RAM. This is where programs run when one uses Word for creating a letter or Excel to produce a company spreadsheet. The RAM is also measured in megabytes or gigabytes. The other internal part is motherboard which is the computer’s main circuit board that holds the CPU, memory, connectors for the hard drives and optical drives as well as various external ports and peripherals.
Besides these some of the other internal parts are network card, power supply unit, hard disk drive and expansion card, video card and sound card.

- Comments Off on Reasons Why Many People Still Use Desktop Computers
There is no doubt that the notebook or laptop has taken over the globe in terms of its current popularity and usability. With portability and easy access in mind, it’s no wonder why more and more people are buying laptops over desktop computers these days.
A busy lifestyle is probably among the many factors why laptops are so in-demand – being constantly on the go and needing technology whenever possible, that is. But for those who are not looking at portability as an issue, a desktop computer will always suffice.
Among the features of the desktop PC that truly stick with many users as of today is its customization. While there are still numerous brands that sell desktops as a bundle, customizable PCs are still available. These are units that can be assembled according to your own preferences and specifications. Normally, gaming PCs are the most customized types of computers because of the need for speed, memory, and multimedia features.
Speaking of features, if you have noticed the latest models of any brand of desktop PCs today, the CPU towers are shrinking while the flat monitors are ever increasing in size. Technology buffs would say that the smaller the hardware, the better. Probably the most intriguing physical features of many desktops today is the fact that technology can jam pack tons of features in even the smallest of CPUs. And while that happens, the need for better visuals and usability still remains for monitors.
One fact that stays the same is that desktop computers are still alive and doing well in many business offices, homes, libraries, internet shops, and schools. Aside from the affordability of desktops, generally they are durable and can tolerate long hours of usage. This is also beneficial for the user because, ergonomically, it is better to sit on an office or computer lab set-up. A notebook or laptop computer may be portable, but if you try using it sitting down on your bed or on a sofa, chances are you will feel pain behind your neck and on your back. Same goes with your arms especially when there’s nothing underneath to support them while typing.
If versatility and functionality are important to you, then a desktop computer can deliver these qualities seamlessly. Since it is built with ports, Bluetooth, and hubs, you can easily attach other peripherals as long as they’re compatible. Latest desktops are equipped with compatible programs, so you can just plug in any device and you’re good to go.
Lastly, if you are using your desktop to keep all of your videos, pictures, and music files, they are easily stored and retrieved because of its faster speed and memory capacity. You can even add extra memory in your CPU if you wish to have more storage space.

- Comments Off on The Advantages of a Desktop Computer
It used to be once upon a time that you never had a choice when it came to buying a computer; you just had to go for a large, bulky desktop model. Then the laptop was introduced but was unaffordable to buy for most people. However the laptop sells far more than a desktop today. This can pose a problem when thinking of buying a computer as you do not know which was is better suited for your needs.
Well with that in mind I have written this article to maybe shed some light on which is the best option from these two computers.
A desktop computer may look quite big and bulky but they are also a lot cheaper than a laptop but can often be a lot better performers. If you want to buy a good laptop you will be hard pressed to find one for under $500. A good solid desktop computer on the other hand can cost much less than this figure.
If you plan to keep sensitive information on your computer then a desktop would probably be the safest option.
Laptops can be a very easy target for any would be thieves that may break into your house because they are so easy to carry. The same cannot be said for the desktop computer. This could prove quite cumbersome when trying to steal it.
Another advantage the desktop has over the laptop is that it is very rare that you hear of anybody dropping their desktop and damaging it. The desktop is far too heavy and bulky for this to happen but a laptop isn’t.
There is also the fact that laptops because of their small size can often overheat with prolonged use. The desktop however has better ventilation and does not suffer from this problem.
Whichever you decide to buy always ensure that you buy it from a reputable source. Another option is that if you are very well clued upon computers you could build your own so that it meets all your needs.
